At the tender age of 11, Bossman's parents were imprisoned for robbery, leading him and his younger sister to live with their grandmother for two years.
Despite these early hardships, Bossman found solace and expression in music. His passion for performing emerged during his time at Hamilton Middle School, where he participated in talent shows alongside a childhood friend. Bossman’s dedication to his craft led to the formation of the underground hip-hop group N.E.K. (Northeast Kings) with his friends. This group marked the beginning of his serious foray into the world of hip-hop, helping to shape his style and identity as an artist.

Bossman’s story begins in the tough neighborhoods of Northeast Baltimore, where he was born Travis Holifield. Life took a harsh turn when he was just 11 years old; his parents were incarcerated for their involvement in a robbery. This sudden upheaval forced Travis and his younger sister to live with their grandmother. These early years were marked by hardship, but they also forged a resilient spirit within him.
Despite these challenges, Travis found solace in music. His first taste of performing came at Hamilton Middle School, where he and a childhood friend captivated local talent show audiences with their rendition of a Kris Kross song. This budding passion for music led to the formation of the underground hip hop group N.E.K. (Northeast Kings), marking the beginning of his journey in the music world.
Bossman’s talent soon caught the attention of the local music scene, with mixtapes promoted by DJ Kayslay helping to elevate his profile. In 2004, he released his debut album, "Law & Order," under Double Down Entertainment. Produced by 1Up Productions (now 1Up Entertainment), the album made waves with its raw energy and authentic storytelling. The single "Oh!" (The Baltimore Anthem), produced by Rod Lee, became a local hit, while "Off da Record," produced by 1Up Productions, garnered massive radio play on 92Q, catching the ear of industry heavyweight Jermaine Dupri and leading to a deal with Virgin Records.
However, Bossman’s ambition didn’t stop there. In August 2007, after parting ways with Virgin Records following their merger with Capitol Records, he signed a lucrative deal with Sony Records under the Sony Urban Music label. This new chapter saw the release of a pre-album CD, "End Of Discussion," which quickly became a local favorite and later a free download on Datpiff. Bossman continued to build his repertoire with the mixtapes "ATM: After These Messages" and "Street Kings," showcasing his versatility and lyrical prowess.
In 2010, Bossman released his second LP, "The Re-Up," via Myspace Records/Interscope. Initially titled "Home Of The Wire," the album underwent a transformation, reflecting Bossman’s evolving artistry. Key singles from the album included "Ghetto," featuring former Dru Hill member scola, and "Break Me Off," both of which received significant acclaim.
Bossman’s collaborations further cemented his place in the industry. He featured on the track "Rain" with Myspace Records artist Jeremy Greene and worked with Raheem Devaughn on the poignant song "I Wonder." The music video for "I Wonder," directed by Gearie "The Grench" Bowman, marked a milestone as Bossman’s first music video release.
