Guyana Police Force fire shots and tear gas at peaceful protesters on Tuesday, December 06, 2011 morning to break up a protest by a group of A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) supporters on Hadfield Street, Georgetown during which retired Guyana Defence Force Chief of Staff, Brigadier Edward Collins and Attorney James were shot and injured. The group gathered for a “March For Social Justice and Economic Boycott” in the streets of Georgetown, Guyana to exercise their democratic rights, they were interrupted and threatened by ranks of the Guyana Police Force who treated them in an inhumane manner. The question remains……will justice ever be served and can we actually live as One People, One Nation, One Destiny?

In Guyana there is demonstrably vast inequality in consumption, income, wealth, access to resources, widespread racial and political discrimination, visible destitution and depredation. There is intolerably high unemployment among the young in particular, high levels of public insecurity, low private safety and security, and, not surprisingly, extensive emigration of Guyanese in search of a better life. Most of these problems facing Guyana are compounded by executive lawlessness. If bad governance has got us where we are today, better governance can make an important contribution to improving our welfare tomorrow. The current Government must, not only be changed but the capacity, for any Government, to repeat such bad behaviour limited constitutionally – forever.

The PPP/C and President Jagdeo need to reassure the Guyanese people that it has not compromised our national interest with any other bordering state as it promotes its narrow political and partisan interest.

A.P.N.U hopes that the presence of the Governor of Roraima at a PPP/C election event is not a prelude to the illegal involvement of Brazilians in the Guyana electoral process. In this regard, A.P.N.U draws attention to the fact of the many reports our officials have received that National ID cards have been illegally distributed to Brazilian miners and businessmen, with a view to influencing the outcome of the upcoming General and Regional elections.

In this context, A.P.N.U calls on the Ambassador and the Government of the Federative Republic of Brazil to act in accordance with the norms of accepted international behavior and provide an explanation and to ensure that such an incident does not recur.

APNU outlines plans for Guyana at New Amsterdam rally

A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) yesterday outlined a number of initiatives it will undertake to give Guyanese a better life if it is elected by the people during a rally on Saturday at New Amsterdam, Berbice. Among the speakers were Dr Rupert Roopnaraine, former finance Minister and economist Carl Greenidge and APNU presidential candidate Retired Brigadier, David Granger.

All of the speakers urged Guyanese to do away with race and racial voting which is killing Guyana. They stated that all the parties that win votes at the next general elections will be welcome on board to join the next cabinet. Speaking at the well-attended rally, presidential candidate David Granger said the PPP government must go because it is bent on their old way of dividing the country along racial lines.

He mentioned corruption, drug trafficking, crime, money laundering, unemployment, piracy murder and robbery among other as the hallmark of the present Government and stated that the murder rate in Guyana per capita is three times that of the United States. Granger also pointed out the poor ratings many of the international agencies have bestowed on Guyana including the IMF, the US State Department and Transparency International among others.

He promised that education would be his key in a new government led by him and noted the many street children and school dropouts in the society.
Granger then outlined a number of initiatives his government will undertake to ease the pressure on Guyanese and give them a better life.

Former Finance Minister, Carl Greenidge in his address outlined a number of plans that an APNU government will take to bring relief to Guyanese and help turn the country around. And Dr. Roopnaraine spoke about the benefits of a coalition government and urged all Guyanese to get on board.

The activity was spiced by a number of cultural items including performances from a popular tassa drumming group out of Tain, Corentyne Berbice. There was also African drumming and a display by a majorette group from Canje. items. Parliamentarian Dr. John Austin welcomed the audience while the activity was chaired by Winifred Haywood.

The APNU is so far made up of the Peoples National Congress Reform (PNCR), Working Peoples Alliance (WPA), Guyana Action Party (GAP), National Front Alliance (NFA), Guyana Peoples Partnership (GPP) and the Guyana National Congress and Association of Local Authorities.

What was supposed to be PPP/C Rally in Buxton, turned out to be an APNU one!

It was Thursday, 03rd November 2011, the date that the People Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) had planned to hold the first campaign rally in Buxton. It was schedule to start at 17:30 hours or 5:30 PM but as usual because of their late arrival it began about 6:15 PM which was expected by the people of Buxton. After brining a few mini bus loads of supporter from different areas and the testing of their equipments they played the campaign team songs as the residents of Buxton get prepared for what they knew was going to be a great demonstration of true Buxtonian Unity. By this time the PPP/C were ready to present their address to supporter and the people of Buxton while the Buxtonians were dress and ready to join the rally.

As the PPP/C campaign team began their introductory speech with a member who was at one time considered a Buxtonian the people of Buxton was well dress in the clothing and pictures of the APNU (A Partnership for National Unity) the main opposition party of the general election. Buxton is known to be supporters of the PNC/R (People’s national Congress Reform) which is now a part of the collation APNU, this is well known by the PPP/C. However they were consistent to continue with their planned program for the night, opening speech was done by the pass Buxtonian who is now adviser to the president, after realizing that Buxtonians were showing the pictures of the presidential candidate for the APNU David Granger and shouting of boos they started to play there party team song while speaking about what they have done for Buxton and intended to do but it made no sense to Buxtonians as they shout APNU and Granger.

As time went by, the angry Buxtonians felt that they have had and heard enough of the PPP/C, they then venture to a march as the presenter quickly rush through their speech with a looks of being afraid while spoke a lot about the pass of the PNC/R back in 1964 which was way beyond what the Buxtonians were able to stand. Buxtonians began driving around the community playing the team songs of the APNU which is expected to have their rally on the Saturday, 05th November, 2011 at the same venue. However, the Buxtonians marched along the Buxton Railway Embankment while burning the jerseys, bags and other campaign material that were given by the PPP/C. After extreme shouts of APNU and Grangers the PPP/C campaign team, some of which cried and beg for the Buxtonians to at least listen, they decided that they were no longer accepted, so they quickly leave which ended with great celebration by Buxtonians.
